The last Saturday of Spring is a special Saturday in Ljubljana. Every possible event is scheduled for it. But really, how could it not be? Practically everyone buggers off to the coast or something like it on the following weekend and they don’t really come back until the end of August, so they use this Saturday for a last get together with friends. Last Saturday was no different. Well, one thing was better. The weather was fantastic! So of course we decided to document it for you.

We started off early (let’s just say that’s a matter of perspective) in Park Tabor. Športno društvo Tabor organized another garage sale in the park. They’re doing a great job – and it shows, there’s more people attending every event.

Next stop was Pogačarjev trg. You could smell the burgers waaay before that. The first Pivo & Burger Fest of the year was just starting. I’m consistently amazed at the number of new microbreweries that are showing up every year. A hundred meters away on Stritarjeva ulica people were worshiping a different kind of drink. Ljubljanska vinska pot is all about wine.

The first of the arts & crafts markets was happening at Gornji trg. Artish is a leading craft market in Ljubljana and is still doing a great job with its colorful and inspirational group of Slovenian crafters. The rival Art Market was set up on the other side of the river at Breg.

A bike ride away at the newly (mostly) car free Trg prekomorskih brigad the inaugural Šiška Open wasn’t yet in full swing, however there was still a lot to do. Plus eat the necessary hodok from Lepa Žoga. As we had more to do, we unfortunately missed the evening happening. A shame, but hopefully this will become an annual event.

We caught up with Parada ponosa at Slovenska ulica. The 17th Ljubljana Pride parade was colorful and loud to say the least.

The last stop of the day was at Muzejska četrt Metelkova. Poletna muzejska noč (Summer Museum Night) was in full swing by the time we got there. We chose Slovene Ethnographic Museum this year and weren’t disappointed.

There was a lot more happening in the city throughout the day, but this was the most we could handle. But hey, there’s always next year!

You know the internet is full of wonders. Great and not so great. I found these KUSA Grass Thongs by Yashin™. Yes, flip flops with a layer of fake grass on the soles to get the sensation of walking barefoot on grass.

Good idea? Bad idea? Decide for yourself, but I think I’ll just stick to my old flip flops and go barefoot only when I’ll want to.
