It's Party Time! Art vs. partytocracy

The time of pre-election hysteria which always shakes Serbia’s foundations and which will last all the way through the middle of May is the perfect time to realize a project such as this! Two young playwrights from Belgrade, Maja Peleviæ and Milan Markoviæ created this subversion, which even none of Serbia’s bigger political parties was able to resist.
Maja and Milan first joined 7 ideologically different political parties. After that they presented their party comrades from all 7 parties with their view of the marketing strategy of party ideas in the form of a paper, they called “Idea, strategy movement.” Their text was well received and brought them serious party discussions regarding their political involvement or attaining political functions in the city’s cultural committees.

However, none of the party representatives they talked to about their future, seemed to notice one small, yet important detail: the entire text of their “Idea, strategy movement” was in fact a copy of Goebbels’s text from 1928, which was in fact called “Knowledge and propaganda.” The only thing Maja and Milan did was changed the words national socialism to democracy, and depending on who the president of the recipient party was, replaced Hitler’s name with his. One of the parties even published the document on its website.

The public viewing of this subversion and the play, which was created as a result of the two playwrights’ weeks long experience with political parties in Serbia, was initially scheduled for the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, but was subsequently canceled. The Youth home however, finally gave audiences the opportunity to get the whole picture on April 8th.
